Title: Yorkshire Dales Mono...Limestone Pavement
Post by: shaunw on March 08, 2012, 05:20:42 am
This is a 5 shot portrait orientated panoramic stitch shot at sunset. I was changing a grads after noticing sudden misting, by the time id cleaned it Inglbourgh Hill was covered with hill fog....it lasted about 20 minutes then was gone...a real pleasure to see that and capture it on camera.

It may be a relatively dark photograph, but the aspect I like about it is the depiction of the tenacity of life as shown by the lone tree in an expanse of eroded limestone rock.  The darkness of the photo contributes, I think, to that theme; life's footholds can be tenuous.  I also like the smooth transitions to different densities in the sky, and it's fortunate that the shades within the tree are such that it stands out well from its background.

Life will be thriving there (http://www.limestone-pavements.org.uk/ecology.html) - it's people and sheep that cleared the trees.

A truly wonderful image. Not too dark for me, in fact, I like it as it is.

Thanks Mike

Iam undecided about the overall tone...bit it wont be too far either way from seen here.

I know the general area well and would love to have been in the right place at the right time like you to capture the feeling you get up on those fells and crags.

The moodiness is enhanced by the overall darkness - any lighter and it would have been lost. Nice one.

Not too dark for me...in my opinion, this image may be a great candidate for the tilt shift miniature treatment.
