Title: External editors are not working in LR 4
Post by: stickan1 on March 07, 2012, 11:56:16 am
I just noticed that no external editors are working in LR 4. Nothing happens. I have a Mac and run the latest version of Lion. There are other threads at the Adobe forum also. Has anyone solved it?

If by external editors, you mean other software plugins (like Photomatix, Nik products, etc), this always happens when a new edition of Lightroom or Photoshop is released. They have to update their software to be compatible with the new Adobe Products. It usually takes days to a few weeks depending on the product. You then have to download their update and install. For specific info, go to the software site. It's not a Lightroom problem....

It seems to be platform dependent. I have Lion 10.7.3 and there is a discussion at the Leica Forum and others have had the same problem. I have uploaded the last version of SEP. I have found a work around, slow, but I will use it until Adobe fix it. I export files from LR4 to LR3 and open the editor, do my work and save and import to LR4.

I've just found this morning that none of the Nik plug-ins work correctly within LR4. They load up nicely, appear to edit correctly but when an image is saved and you return to LR4, the image is consistently washed out. It's happening in Color Efex Pro and in Silver Efex.

I'm running a new Mac with 10.6.8. LR4 itself cooks nicely--it's fast and smooth and I approve of the new bells and whistles. But I'm having to shift to Aperture or CS5 for all editing on the Nik suite. I've filed a support ticket with Nik but not received an answer yet.

Not so with 10.6.8. SEP and CEF create washed out images after being saved within the external editor.

No problem here with 10.6.8 SL.
From the Adobe Forums, it seems to be a problem of whether you have CS5 or not (I think the problem even persists if you have CS5 Extended). The system runs a check for CS5 and if not present, mucks everything up.

For the record, I have CS5 and the Nik Suite and am having no problems since I updated the Nik products.
