I'm planning a trip to Utah in November, and I think I will upgrade my old Garmin GPS to one of the newer models with a large screen and touch control.
But I need good topo maps of Utah to put in the GPS. Where can I get good topo maps for southern Utah?
The resent article A Journey to The Subway (http://www.luminous-landscape.com/locations/journey_to_the_subway.shtml) was perfect and i bought the PDF. Really good for what i need, but I would have liked to have the actual GPS coordinates to put in as way points in my GPS before I go. Does anybody have a list of coordinated for these locations?

The USGS has tons of maps on line, free.

Thank you both! That should get me the maps I need.
I guess I should be able to find the GPS coordinates I need by using the Garmin maps and find the location from the maps in the PDF from the A Journey to The Subway.

Turns out it´s not so easy to get maps of Utah for a GPS. Tried to buy the 24K topo maps from Garmin but they canceled the order:
"Due to U.S. Export Administrative Regulations, we are unable to complete your transaction at this time."
And yes; I tried to use a mail forwarder with a US delivery address, but CC address is of course Norwegian. :-[
Makes no sense, I can buy this when I am in the US, but then I miss the opportunity to have the GPS ready with maps and waypoints.
I guess I will have to try open sources like Utah Topo Maps (http://www.miscjunk.org/mj/mp_uttopo.html), or ask a friend to buy it for me.

Is your GPS a car based one? I have an Oregon 450 and I can download free maps for it, one source being www.gpsfiledepot.com . I used it to download a map of Everglades when I went kayaking there, really helpful.
I don't know if it works with regular Garmins.

Thank you for that link. Looks like it have some maps I can use!
I have a Garmin Montana 650, and I wanted the 24K topo maps since I will use it walking. Probably easiest to get a friend to buy the map for me when he is in the US.

That's what I thought, but it's not that difficult to install many of those maps. I'm going in SW in 2 weeks so I'll have to do it myself also ;) (and they are free). Here are the maps for Utah: http://www.gpsfiledepot.com/maps/state/ut

Great, both coordinates and a great description! I guess I did not realize how famous the "subway" is.
