Title: xRite has no Lion support for MonacoOptix
Post by: jonathan.lipkin on February 14, 2012, 06:04:00 pm
Just venting a bit here. Turns out that xRite has no software upgrade for my MonacoOptix. Their 'upgrade' is a completely new piece of hardware that costs nearly $200. In order to use the Optix, which I purchased relatively recently, I have to dual boot my system. This is poor customer service. There is no reason for me to continue supporting a company that does not provide reasonably priced upgrade paths.

I guess that it's time to learn Argyll if you don't want to invest $200. Stefano Lassini has a good article about Argyll: http://www.lassini.com/blog/?tag=argyll-cms

Nah, I think I'm just going to invest $10 in a thumb drive, install 10.6 on it and boot to it when i need to calibrate or use the other software that's not getting updated - peak, deck, etc

It's probably quicker, you're right!

Just curious, didn't the Monaco Optix get discontinued late 2006/early 2007?

It was still being made until sometime last year, but only sold as an OEM puck to the likes of Integrated Color (ColorEyes) and Quato. With the introduction of the i1Display Pro/i1D3 the DTP-94 went away for good.

Perhaps, but I thought I had bought it directly from xrite only a year or two ago.

Anyhow, I just realized that my NEC has software that runs under Lion - Spectraview - that I can use to profile my monitor (NEC 90 series) with the Optix.

Yes, that's the path that most people will take in this situation.  If you want to continue using your DTP94 (it's a great device in many ways!) you'll want to look at 3rd party software like ColorEyes Display Pro or basICColor Display - or if you happen to have an NEC or Eizo, their own proprietary software is regularly updated to work with OS changes.
