These Images are one of the reasons why I am going to miss the 100mm f2.8 lens of my now traded away Mamiya Press.

Well, I got something in return .. my now new used Mama 7 II with 43, 89 and 150 mm lens. I'll see how it compares.

The second doesn't look to me to be more than a snap, but the first is excellent.

The second one is the better composition, but I'm not crazy about the fact that he's squinting. He doesn't look at ease.

Yes, he is just like that.
A very friendly, but also sceptical person and not someone who is used to pose as a model.
Apart from my chronical struggleing with the light when doing portraits, Portrait for me is not to have a pretty image of a pretty person.
Squinting, sticking out the tongue or finding interesting things in ones nose can all be part of it ....  ;)

Christoph,

Thank you for the joys of a bit of Acros.  What a refreshing delight.

These are such wonderful portraits.  The bond between snapper and snappee is evident and there is little sense of 'I am having my picture taken' to mar the fruits of the lens.

There's never anything wrong with just a snapo in my book.

The first image looks a very nice portrait with a good classic composition.

Looks like a guy worth knowing. Nice snapshots.

He is, indeed!

I think the first is maybe the best portrait I have ever made - usually I suck at portraits and I'm trying hard to improve.
