Title: Canon 1DX Samples are online
Post by: Josh-H on February 07, 2012, 06:35:08 pm
Well.. some samples are online (finally). Perhaps a panicked response to the announcement of the D800.

Samples HERE (http://web.canon.jp/imaging/eosd/samples/eos1dx/)

These samples are really quite impressive and very clean - although I would have liked a sample with more high frequency detail. I haven't made a print from them - but they do uprez very nicely in PS. Interesting that there are no really high ISO samples yet.

Perhaps a panicked response to the announcement of the D800.

You can positively feel the knee-jerk in the design of that page.

edit...And I just edited out the part that showed I forgot the 1DX was still a mere 18MP.  I would have just held off that page altogether if I was Canon.  Have to say the 36mp concept has seriously excited my neurons, and looks better than I thought it might.

What do you mean with reductions? The pixels count for image 001 is 17,915 or 18 mp.
Eduardo

You can positively feel the knee-jerk in the design of that page.  And somebody there at Canon needs a good smack-down, those are REDUCTIONS!  Come on boys, man the big guns!

Not bad for reductions, however.  And as with the D800 samples there can be no doubt that even pretty girls have zits.

I was wrong, and I fixed my original post.  36MP just got me so excited, nothing else will do now.  So, reductions compared to 36mp, to fix my ignorance via spin-doctoring.

Thanks Bill. I just got ready this composite made out of one sample fro mthe 1DX and from the D800. I picked these two, because the subjects were about the same size in their respective frames. The difference between the 2 cameras is obvious. How will they print? We have yet to see.

P.S. This my post 666. I must be the devil tonight!  :D

I must be a little dense. I can't draw any conclusions from these comparisons.

Samples are obviously just samples and those are nice...

...but what is the point of publishing 5 months after announcement images going no higher than 1600 iso for a camera advertised as going up to ISO200,000?

Cheers,
Bernard

I can, although preliminary in essence because these are all jpegs out of the web. What I can see is that more megapixels still help to get some extra detail. This is of course, under the dreaded law of diminishing returns. It seems to me that current top glass is not yet passed. There is still some room left.

After looking at all samples I could find today, I believe that FF dslr's still have more room for improvement. No idea how much more. What I can deduct is that medium format manufacturers are going to get a little sore by the ramming of these new sensors. Nikon and Canon have been relentless improving optics to keep up with the demanding sensors of today. However, as good as these new files look with the super detail, they lack the engraving power of the bigger sensors inside the medium format cameras. I couldn't see any improvement in 3D effects either. More detail but still lacking the vibrancy and the authority of the bigger sensors. In my humble opinion.

I don't do beauty shots but I downloaded No.2, would those of you that shoot beauty for a living be happy with that skin tone gradation. It struck me as a little clunky.
