I woke predawn to a 1/4 inch of ice on my truck in the Racetrack Valley, part of the Death Valley National Monument. The campsite was about 4 miles from the southern edge of the world famous Racetrack where stones move in mysterious ways across a dry lake bed. I rose, drove the miles to the viewing point and as I stood and watched the sun rise over the horizon this mysterious fog rose from the valley floor alongside the mountain range and silently drifted along while forming wild looking tendrils of visible moisture. It was creepy and entrancing all at the same time. — at Racetrack Playa Death Valley.
Shot with a Canon 1dsMark2, post processed using SNS-HDR (single shot), with a mild curves adjustment in Photoshop.

Very cool!

love the way the sun iluminates the background, great shot!!!

Most excellent both in terms of quality and refreshing for not being the same old, shopworn 'rocks sliding through the playa' shot.

Some of the nicest fog I've seen in a long while.

Very nice. This is probably due to the image reduction but maybe lighten the right side mountain in shade just a little.
I also like that you added the copyright information below the image space.

Fantastic image. Fortune favours the brave.
Brave as in sleeping in your truck in the desert in January. : )

Really an excellent image, Steve, especially since when I opened your post I expected to see the classic 'moving stones on baked earth' shots most get from that location (not that there's anything wrong with that).

Edit: Oops. Just noticed that my post is basically a rehash of Mjollnir above. Guess I need to brush up on my reading skills.
