I have my two websites, www.MGphotography.com and www.PhotographyWorkshops.ca, and I'm looking for a new web host. Are there any decent Canadian hosts, or what are the alternatives?
-
what about Go Daddy? any comments? I know they're not in Canada, but I'm not having any luck finding anything decent.
-
Stay away from Go Daddy, they have a bad reputation and also got some bad press lately for supporting SOPA.
I'd recommend these...
http://www.pair.com
http://www.bluehost.com
http://www.hostgator.com
Pair Networks is not cheap, but if you want the highest quality they are the ones I'd go with.
I've used them since 1998, and have never had a single issue. Their websites are fast, ultra
reliable, and their customer service is top notch.

Mike,
This is a timely question for me. What services and features are you looking for in a host?
-
I've managed 4 or 5 sites using hostmonster.com, never had any issues with them, prices seem fair and have many different options from scratch. No problems using html, flash, php, also no problems with joomla or wordpress.
-
I've just been looking into HostPapa (http://www.hostpapa.ca/), a Canadian provider. Their pricing is in line with other popular hosts and their reviews are quite good.
I basically need enough space for the two sites - I'm looking at unlimited space. I just got dinged by Bell for going over my limit - $50!! - and it needs PHP and MySql for my shopping carts.

I've used webcenter.ca (which actually does resolve to webcentre.ca) for years without issue.

Mike,
As a fellow Canuck, I have found the people at HostPapa to be extremely friendly and knowledgeable, along with cheap!
They handle two of my urls, with one just being bounced to Zenfolio. I have never had a problem with them. Give them a call, they are in Oakville I think.

Thanks Ian

I've been using LFC hosting for years. They're pretty good. http://www.lfchosting.com/

Why so you want a Canadian host? That sort of ignores the whole idea of the internet. I use WebHostingHub with great satisfaction, it's an Australian company with a server facility somewhere in the US. Low prices and good tech support.
-
Well, being Canadian I prefer to shop Canadian. I prefer to shop as local as I can. Simple as that.

We don't have a professional site, but for our blog (we're in Victoria) we use http://dreamhost.com/
Mike.
