Title: Head swipes on Lyve on iPF8300?
Post by: bill t. on January 17, 2012, 03:52:55 pm
Anybody with an iPF8300 noticing subtle head swipes on recent rolls of Lyve canvas?

I've been working to integrate BC Lyve canvas into my workflow, but during profiling and early proofing I'm seeing a lot of swiped-down peaks in the dark areas of the canvas. My iPF8300 head height is set to Highest and my vacuum is at max.

I'm wondering if I have freak rolls or if that's the norm.

The BC website states 19mil, but the three rolls of 24x40' Lyve I have are closer to 23+ mils.  It's most noticeable near recently cut edges which is probably due to curl, but it also appears to lesser degree everywhere, a little more in some areas than others.

Who's got some Lyve and a caliper?

I've not had any of these problems with Lyve on my 8300. I bought my last role from Amplis in early November.

Unfortunately, I do not have calipers.

Terry.

Lately I've been printing on Hahnemuehle baryta with vacuum and head height set to max, then switched paper to HW Satin, but left setting for Hahnemuehle mistakenly. Paradoxically it resulted in head swipes, that disappeard after I swiched to standard HW Satin setting... So maybe it's worth trying to experiment with lower head height / weaker vacuum?

I only rarely notice with lyve and my 8300 and it's often at the very end of the roll where the canvas just doesn't want to be flat anymore. it happens to me rarely enough that I count it as a non issue.

I think I just had some rolls with unusual width.  A newer 44" roll doesn't swipe at all and measures about 20 mil.  And congrats to BC for that new ripple-free core technology, but now I won't know when I'm near the end of the roll.
