Title: D700 Capture Stills to External Recorder via HDMI
Post by: RFPhotography on January 10, 2012, 10:25:09 am
The new D4 can capture uncompressed video to an external recorder via HDMI.

The D700 has an HDMI out port as well.  Could it be used to capture stills directly to a recorder?  It can be tethered to a laptop, of course, but there are times when carrying a laptop isn't practical and the tethering software is slow.  Such a setup could be useful for longer timelapse capture sequences so as to negate the need to change memory cards.

Why would you sacrifice the raw processing aspect?

Where are you finding an external hdmi recorder with its own raw still recording capability

I'm not.  That's what I'm asking.  If it's possible.  Using an external recorder isn't, in essence, a lot different from shooting tethered.  It's shooting to an external drive.  I can capture raw tethered.  But there are limitations to tethered shooting - it's slow, not overly portable/practical in some situations and battery charge life is significantly shortened.  So I'm looking for other alternatives.  If there are any.  Simple.
