Title: Using Elinchrom BX 500's and Skyport remotes with NEX 7 hot shoe adapter
Post by: dgberg on January 01, 2012, 08:46:26 am
Probably will not see my NEX 7 until late Jan. but would like to get my accessories together.
From what I have read the Sony Alpha FA hot shoe adapter is required to make this all work. (About $100.00)
The light system should work properly,I think.
What about firing the shutter wirelessly?
Have I chosen the proper adapter and does anyone have the NEX- 7 setup for a wireless studio shoot?

Hi

There far cheaper hot shoe adaptors as the Sony Alpha FA.
A wireless trigger is a low voltage piece, so normally no risk for to high voltages.

Just so I understand this correctly. The Sony FA adapter only enables you to slide a hot shoe piece from another manufacturer on to the NEX 7 hot shoe?
Otherwise wouldn't I be able to slide my Skyport directly on the NEX-7?

Here essential, yes.  (The Sony adaptor has some extra protections build in against old high voltage flashes.  The skyport is ver low voltage, so this extra functionality is not needed here.)

Dan, I am just speculating and have no detailed knowledge, but it seems that the Skyport mounted on the NEX-7 hot shoe would allow wireless flash, but I don't see how you could do both wireless flash and have a remote trigger.  Unless the camera has the ability to tether to a computer and you can use a program like Lightroom to trigger the camera.  Interesting question, I guess time will tell...
