Both of these were shot at the same time and place, however each seems to elicit a different response. Your feedback please - which one would you prefer to hang on your wall?
- Overnight Snow 1
- Overnight Snow 2
- Both equally
- Neither should make the cut
Thanks in advance for your clarity of thought and vision!

Well, I liked the colour and composition of #3 in your last thread with a similar image. But I digress.
Here I like #2. In #1 the trunks on the right feel like distraction.

At the gut level, I find the first a tiny bit more satisfying. The two trees on the right don't bother me.
In the first, the small opening into the woods behind, just to the right of the main trunk seems to invite me to wander further into the picture, while the similar area in the second feels as if it is blocking me out. I'm not sure why, perhaps the color? The tones in the first feel more plausible to me, so I'll vote for the first (but they're both quite good).

I prefer #2 for several reasons, not because the trees on the right in #1 are a distraction. In the second print, I like the bottom cropping better than in # 1 which seems to me to be cut off. It's interesting that a previous poster liked the small forest opening in #1, where as I find it more inviting in the second image. Finally I prefer toned prints, although on my monitor this print seems a bit too warm. Still all in all very nice, either one.

I have a strong preference for #2 but it is kind of a gut reaction. In an attempt to be a bit more analytical I would say that I find that the 2 dark tress on the right in #1 distracting which creates a contention for a focal point. In #2 the interaction of the two trees forms a closed and comfortable space on the left side and that is where my eyes settle.

For me, #2 is the winner. The tree trunk is more clearly defined against the background. The dark area around the lower trunk in #1 confuses the trunk shape somewhat.
Given that the light under those conditions would be very blue, I'm surprised that I like the warm toning. And I do. : )
