Title: Some poles
Post by: Fips on October 21, 2011, 06:35:37 am
Hi,

I'm quite impressed by how helpful and friendly people are around this forum, so I though I'll too give it a try. Here's a scene that caught my eye as I recently walked through a harbour near my place. I liked the interplay between the geometric shapes of the poles and their reflections in the water. Also the colours were really vivid and luminous at that time.
After playing around with a couple of shots, I ended up with the B&W image you find attached. However, I'm not really satisfied. There's nothing that catches you eye, or tells a story. So what do you think? Any suggestions how I could improve the image? Maybe keep the greenish blue of the water in the image? I also attached the original, uncropped image and one where you can see the surroundings.
Thanks for your help in advance!

Hi Fips,

Welcome aboard and very interesting image(s) to kick off with.

Is the first image upside down by mistake, or is the image flip intended?

But who cares, I like the first one a lot, it sort of looks like chimney stacks, but instead of smoke, the smoke effect is replaced by the stack itself shimmering in a smokey surrealistic kind of way – nice idea.
