Title: Can't do firmware update on M9. Help!
Post by: sanvandur on August 21, 2011, 01:18:27 pm
I've been trying to update my M9 as per Leica's instructions (http://us.leica-camera.com/service/downloads/rangefinder_cameras/m9_m9-p/index.html). When I choose to update to the new firmware on the camera's screen, it all goes black and nothing happens. I wait for a few minutes -nothing happening, no screen prompts, no flashing light, nothing- until I finally just turn of the camera entirely. When I turn it back on, firmware is still 1.116.
What am I missing?

Hi,
Try asking the question at : http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/
Or call or email Leica, they respond promptly.
I have not updated the firmware on my new M9 -- i am sending it back with some lenses so that they can calibrate my old lenses to the new body and get Leica to update the firmware for me as well. Getting the M9 was worth the wait for me, and my 60's and 70's lenses!

Start with a card formatted in the camera. A full battery. Make sure you really do have the correct unpacked file and only the correct file on the card. And yes, it can go black for a couple of minutes depending on the speed of your card. If you had said you waited half an hour though, I would be worried. Good luck.
