Title: Stanage Edge - just messin - wow!
Post by: Dave (Isle of Skye) on August 05, 2011, 06:25:17 am
Just messin with my all new wizz-bang i7, 64 bit, quad core, 16Gb Ram, CS5 PC last night and straight out of the box I made this moody image from a shot I had previously thought was a candidate for the delete button.

I held off for too long before this major upgrade to all my PC kit and software and laying out the shed load of cash I needed to spend to get here, but now I know it was completely worth it, as I realise that the kit you process with, is at least as equally important as the kit you shoot with - wow is all I can say..

That's a nice one, Photobloke.
And I'm with you 100% about having good processing gear, as I recently bit the bullet and went from 32-bit Vista (4G ram) to 64-bit Win 7 with 12G ram, an SSD, and other nice goodies. MAkes processing a pleasure.

Hi Eric,

Yes I had got to the stage where I had to save after every image tweak just in case it crashed on me (as it did often when throwing around 120Mb 16bit Tiff files) and if I tried to stitch a pano together, then forget it. I got so used to watching the progress bar moving slowly across the screen, only to get to about 90% after a long wait, before it threw up the "Out of Ram this task cannot be completed" message.

Not entirely keen on W7 though, but I know I will get used to it, but haven't MS made a complete b*ll*cks of the Hearts game, although I don't suppose I need to play it anymore as I sit waiting for the machine to grind away updating the image.

So all in all, money well spent.
