I will be in New York for a couple of weeks during August.....long way to go for such a short holiday but anyway I am doing it.
I am interested in viewing as much of the great photographers work as I can............I am thinking Atget through to BC and beyond, you guys know all the names better than me. Also landscape would be good too, Adams of course but others also.
Whilst I will be doing my own web searches I would appreciate your recommendations of places to visit.
Thanks for your help

The International Center for Photography, Elliott Erwitt: Personal Best MAY 20–AUGUST 28, 2011. Love Elliott Erwitt's work.
Cheers,

I can't make the trip to see the show, but I'd certainly second Tom's recommendation. There's also a huge book of Elliott's work with the same title: Personal Best, that I'd recommend to anyone without reservation. Unfortunately you almost need a forklift to move it around, but it's full of some of Elliott's "personal best," which, in my estimation is some of the finest photography ever done by anyone.

Peter, Philly - thanks for the links - makes the Internet so much more interesting and worthwhile; almost worth the DVT risk! Fortunately or otherwise, since I'm already on prescription acido acetilsalicilico, I may have a certain amount of protection against that built-in!
It certainly underlines the advantages of the Big Smoke as compared with a small dot in the middle of a blue(ish) puddle itself in the back of beyond. Listening, Michael?

My wife and I hit two museums when we were in NY, specifically for photography:
International Center for Photography
Metropolitan Museum of Art
Awesome stops.
