I have a problem that has only started recently and could be a serious nuisance. Some of my raw files seem to be damaged. Lightroom reports them as "There was an error working with the photo", and when I go to the raw file in question in the folder on my drive it is the only one not showing a picture as an icon. If I try to directly open the file not using Lightroom - say in Photoshop - the message is "this type of file is not recognised". Similar message "file may be damaged" if I try to open in Preview on the Mac.
This has affected several of my pictures over the last few weeks and I think it is always pictures that I have printed from Lightroom. I should add that all of my work happens in Lightroom from import to print so no other programme should be an influence.
Any suggestions?

Jim,
Did these corrupted files display previously without any problems? If they are previously processed then it could be a couple of problems, software - unlikely, or a hdd beginning to fail - more likely.
If it is as you say files which have been printed via Lightroom, try copying some other uncorrupted files and print the copies, see if they fail too. If this is the problem then maybe re-install Lightroom.
Just my thoughts.

Thanks for your thoughts. The particular picture in question today is with a batch of 300 pictures, many of which have been printed recently and with no problem. The pictures concerned are all stored on a DROBO external drive which of course is a type of RAID setup.
The picture I am trying to print now was sent out but lost in the postal system, so this is meant to be a replacement. Typical!

UPDATE
I have just restarted my computer and miraculously Lightroom can now read the file! It can also be opened in Photoshop. However in Finder it is still the only image not showing as a preview so something is slightly odd. However I am happy again now.

Glad you've got it displaying again.

Any issues detected in the Raid ?

Make backups to a different drive quick in case something goes wrong again.

Yes, Eric - I think that is possibly the best answer! All of my really important stuff is, but these were not.
