Title: basic luminance confusion

I had a custom printer profile made and now my prints are comin out a tad dark to monitor (they were light before the custom profile)
So if I adjust my luminance down to match the prints will I have a problem when I send files out for albums and larger prints than I can make ? Or do I need 2 luminance calibrations, one for in house one for outside labs ?

You'll find the specific steps in the CS5 manual. In summary, you need to set up the soft proofing to use the profile for the target printer and paper. Then when you turn soft-proofing on (Ctrl+Y I think) PS will adjust the image to take into account the qualities of the paper and printer as defined in the profile. You then use the editing tools so the proofed image looks as you want to print to look.

There's a lot of good information of soft-proofing in the archives here.

You really should have a calibrated monitor for this to work properly.
