Could someone help please!
I have printed great B&W using the ABW in the Epson driver in the past but it's been a while.
This morning I am getting not so great b&W. Has a tint and is not neutral.
Currently using CS5 and Mac OS 10.5 and am choosing "Let Printer Manage Color" after selecting the ABW neutral darker settings.
Have done nozzle check and it's OK.
Any advise?

Same paper and "paper type" setting as before?
-
Yes, I 'm using the same pre-set as before.

Might be worth running a test strip with a grayscale image printed without ABW.

In what direction is the colour cast in your ABW output - warm or cool?

Warmer.
After reading Eric Chan's Epson ABW workflow without profiles, things are better.
Thanks,

Eric's stuff on ABW is great. It is my bible . . .
Glad things are going better.

Just thought of something. I had started up CS5 in 32 bit to use some Nik filters and the last time I printed Epson ABW it would have been from the 64 bit version.
Could that have made a difference.
Remember I am on Mac OS 10.5.8

Shouldn't make any difference, Alan. If you have hue shifts in ABW I have found that low ink cart levels are to blame, despite good nozzle checks. The slightest difference in pressure at the print heads is enough to shift the hues in ABW - sounds crazy, but I have the test prints to prove it.

I don't know what the probem could be but I just read a very good article on the Advanced B&W mode last week, which might lead you in the right direction.

Ron Sheppard also has a chapter in his latest Epson Printing Book.

Be sure to double check the Rendering Intent.
I do not have a technical explanation as to why, but with the latest OSX versions and CS5, the best results with ABW are when the Rendering Intent is set to "Relative Colorimetric".

I would first go to European Epson website, let's say UK one, and download the ColorBase and re-linearize the printer by this program.
But not all paper type would take advantage by this progress.

Hi Alan
Make a nozzle check to be sure you don't miss any color. That can produce also a slight color shift in BW.
