Title: Oak in B&W
Post by: Matt Tilghman on May 24, 2011, 08:55:14 pm
I don't do that many B&W photos, but this one was screaming for conversion in my mind.  Taken the same day and in the same park as my "rapture" photo, but a different tree and a different field.  This was actually taken earlier in the day that that photo, with the sun higher in the sky, but it appears to be lower because you are looking up a pretty steep hill.

Thoughts are appreciated!

Nice shot, I like the sun shinning behind the tree!

I like it (and I like the toning as well) but I think the sun is just a little too bright. The complete absence of the bottom part of the tree trunk detaches the tree from the ground, which looks uncomfortable.

The light area could be burnt in a little to make a fine image even better. The overall toning is very good.

The detached tree trunk gives it a truly other-worldly look, which is one of the things I like about it. But maybe I'm just perverse.

I love the tree being completely sharp yet very flat, almost like a cutout.

Then i'm noticing the tips of the grass being white hot and leading into a "source"..... the base of the tree.
