Title: Can Lighroom 3.4 use the Lightroom 1.4 catalogs?

I recently purchased lightroom 3.4. I have many photos in catalogs created by Lightroom 1.4. I never had Lightroom 2. Is there a way to access the data for my pictures? I opened the catalog, LR gave it a new name, the stars and flag ratings show up but the developing parameters are all set at the default. I keep searching online, but can not find the answer. There seem to be implications that it should work, but most scenarios are upgrading LR 2 to LR3 and updating the catalogs correspondingly.
Any and all help will be appreciated.

Have you tried opening the catalogues? Use File > import from Catalog to bring them into one catalogue .
