Just had to vent,
Purchased a Tripod and set of 1/4 to 3/8 bushing from Adorama the other week for a shoot I start driving to this Friday at 0dark30. Paid express shipping and on the day I should get the product I get an email saying it is back ordered. Their website still does not indicate this.
What is with the integrity of sales and support these days. My order was in plenty of time and paying for expedited shipping is certainly enough effort to expect what I ordered.

This has happened many times to me in the UK, ordering from the web. The site says "in stock", but sometimes
I'm told I have to wait 2 weeks. I always ring and confirm that the supplier has stock now, "Have you got one
on your shelf, can you actually see it?" kind of stuff. Annoying but typical. All part of this JIT economics we're saddled with.

Good advice about calling. too bad we have to work so hard to obtain what we order from these massive stores. A culture of don't care seems to be how they operate.

I have not been impressed with Adorama. I ordered a $2000 lens on Friday at noon and paid extra for 2 day shipping so I'd get it on Monday. They did not even ship it until Monday. I asked for a refund of the extra shipping charges and they blew me off. They are off my list for good even if their prices are occasionally a bit lower than B&H (who have never given me a problem with dozens of orders).

It is 0539 on Friday, I should have had the equipment by now as I get in the car and head to the shoot. I just checked my email and the should have been instock item is shipping today to arrive the day I return from the shoot on Monday.
Amazing. Too Little Too Late. Even tried to work with Adorama about the shipping charges since I did not want to pay to have it shipped fast when they missed their opportunity to get it here in time from showing it was in stock.
I would not treat my customers like this.

They probably learned it from Amazon.

If you charged the item on a credit card I would contest the charge for a total return and refund at their expense.

Exactly, I would call the credit card company immediately and tell them the story. I would return the lens pronto. I wonder if you can refuse delivery of it after contacting the credit card company?

So it's just the one NY shop you've had trouble with?
I've never had good luck with Adorama, or shall I say I've consistently had bad experiences with them since 1991 or so ... They are an absolutely last resort type of place for me and I wouldn't trust buying anything online from them.
17th Street Photo and B&H have always been great, 17th St especially (and they are open 7 days/week and during the Jewish holidays).
Calling is always a good idea.

I have often had this problem in the UK and often they won't even email to say it is backordered, I have to ask where my item is and then they tell me. Time for refunds is also stupid, 5 working days? Really? If I return something to a shop it's done on the spot.
The lastest I've had is a company asking for copies of my card and ID documents due to card fraud so I told them due to identity theft I could not supply them and wished to cancel the order if they would not process it without them.
