Title: SB900s and external power
Post by: rogan on April 11, 2011, 01:59:20 pm
First off, how is there so many camera boards and nothing on lighting??? Isn't that really more important?

I have a ton of Sb900s and as many know they do overheat. They also could recycle faster. I have been told the Nikon external pack does help with both. I was also curious about the Lumadyne and other similar packs that are rechargeable. Do they help with recycle times and overheating issues? All info would be greatly appreciated.
Also these are available on ebay for $30 as oppose to Nikons for $180 and from what I can tell are the same thing for a lot less

Both are dumb(no electronics) battery holder and cable. Anyone played with these?
Thanks

Hi Rogan,

I’m using these external battery holders with the 4 SB900’s and the Pocket Wizard Flex TT5’s. They work flawlessly.

Cheers

Thanks Simon, I just ordered one. If it works well will order a lot more
Does recycle time improve? Overheating?

Hi Rogan,

The recycling times are faster and I haven't had any over heating problems. I have turned off the thermal cut out on the SB900's.

Cheers

Simon

I use Quantum Turbo 2x2 battery packs.  These are some of the fastest and longest lasting on the market, good for over 1,000 flashes on one charge.
No problems with SB-900.  I turn the warning off.
