For some reason LR has multiple folders in a Catalogue with no Photos. The folders are present but the several hundred pictures are not. I have no clue how this occurred and where the files went.
I do have a backup with the files present--thank God
How do I restore from the backup go on from there?

Is it possible these folders are parent folders, ie they have sub-folders containing images, but the parent folders do not contain any images? If yes then is it possible that you have accidentally told Lightroom to not show images from the sub-folders?
If this is the reason then go to File/Library filters, then check “Include photos from subfolders”. Doing this will show the images in the parent folders.

I figured out how to make the backed-up library the current library. The missing files were there and I am back up an operating. This is why one should back up every time you close the program--saved my butt.
