Title: Kilauea HI Advice

Heading to the big island for 3 days starting 3/15, my intention was to spend a full day at the volcano hiking and getting pictures, we're taking my inlaws for their 50th anniversary, they've never been to the big island or seen an active volcano.

Given the current status of Kilauea, it looks like there is no access to the park and limited options for pictures of the lava around Kilauea - old or new.

Trying to figure out in advance what options we have and what gear I should bring. I was going to bring the 7D, lenses, and tripod for essentially this one day - but leaning towards a smaller kit (Panasonic GF2 and a coupe lenses)

Any advice or options greatly appreciated.

I suggest taking a helicopter tour over the volcano.

The second one has a map that shows which roads and trails in the Kilauea area are open/closed.
