Title: if no icc for R2880, use icc from 3800? 3880 ?
Post by: Aristoc on February 26, 2011, 03:24:29 pm
Hi. I wondered if there is no icc for R2880, use icc from  3880 ? since it's the same inks/print head?

Thanks

it may work anywhere along the continuum of 'not so much' to 'fairly well' but ultimately, it's gonna cost you a piece of paper to simply *try* it.

Just because it uses the same ink there is NO assurance it'll work 'well'

You've got nothing to loose but a little time and a sheet of paper.

The inks may be the same, but heads work differently as does the screening code.

Use the same paper settings, dpi, other check-boxes and perhaps you'll get close.

Good luck and I hope it works!

I think if it was that simple, why wouldn't the icc provider just make the same profile available for both with a simple change of download page? - think about it.

As has been said, the only cost of finding out how close it would be is a piece of paper for the image you want to print!

I would think the 3800 (Ultrachrome K3) would be way off since the ink set is totally different from the 3880/2880 (Ultrachrome K3 with vivid magenta), and wouldn't even try the 3800 icc profiles!

Sometimes it is that simple. I f you read this thread about 1/3 from the bottom (abiggs), a profile was created by abiggs, and he says the same profile works for two different printeres. all he had to do is rename the profile.

So you see it is possible.

...a profile was created by abiggs, and he says the same profile works for two different printeres. all he had to do is rename the profile.

That was for two different Canon printers who share the same ink set and head. Just as you can use the same profile for an Epson 7900 and 9900. But that does NOT translate to different ink sets and head designs. Thus a profile made for the 3880 will not work on the 3800–different ink sets and a profile for a 3880 won't work on a 2880–different head designs...

They may be "similar" but they won't be optimal...you would be far better off getting the correct profile for the exact printer, ink set and and paper–even if you have to have a custom one made.

Yes sorry I should not have included the 3800 in my post. However, that still means that what I said was true. That is, sometimes two or more printers may have the same icc profile.
