Title: My Tar Gazing exhibit and a few in New York (State)
Post by: Eric Myrvaagnes on January 13, 2011, 09:06:53 pm
Some of you are aware that besides conventional landscapes I like to photograph some pretty peculiar subjects like graffiti on old, rusting railroad cars, remnants of ripped-off posters in subway stations, and drips of tar applied to asphalt pavement in the attempt to prolong its life.

Well now I have been invited to have a one-person exhibit of twenty-four of my tar drip photos at the Brookline Arts Center in Brookline, Massachusetts. This show will run from next Tuesday, January 18, through Friday, March 18, and there will be an opening reception on Friday evening, January 21, from 6:30 to 8:30 pm. If any of you will be close enough to this part of the world, I'd love to see you at the reception. For the rest of the show, the gallery hours are M-F 9 am to 4:30 pm.

The Brookline Arts Center is located at 86 Monmouth Street, one block from the Beacon Street/St. Mary's Street T stop.
The BAC website is http://brooklineartscenter.com (http://brooklineartscenter.com).

-------------

In addition, four of my prints from my Subway Series have been selected to appear in the 2011 Invitational Photography Exhibit at the Upstream Gallery, 26B Main Street, Dobbs Ferry, New York. This exhibit will run from February 3 through February 27, 2011, with an opening reception on Sunday, February 6. The Upstream Gallery website is http://upstreamgallery.com (http://upstreamgallery.com).

Cheers,

Eric

Congratulations Eric! Wish I could attend but I'm so far away that I could just as well be writing this from Mars.

Thanks a lot, Riaan. I'd love to visit your neck of the woods some day, but that's equally unlikely.

Good luck with the Tar exhibition. There's nothing like a good tar picture as we both know.

Cheers,

Congrats, Eric!  Wrong coast for me, but I'm sure you'll do well.

BTW, have you ever been here? http://tao-of-digital-photography.blogspot.com/

Mike.

Congratulations. I'm a fan of your road tar shots, as you know. Alas, 3,000-odd miles is just too far away.

Congrats, Eric. Wish I could be there. I'm not much on tar drips but I do love boxcar graffiti, some of which is finer art than what I often see these days in museums.

Thanks everybody!

@Mike: Yes, I've seen that quite lively site. And I have a book with almost the same title, but not "digital", and by a different author.

@Russ: I want to assure you that 90% of the images in the show have not been cropped (except by the camera), and the few that were cropped by me were done so only to fit my intention when viewing the scene.  ;)

Cheers,

Eric

Eric, I'm really glad to hear that everything's going to be on the up and up.

Congratulations, Eric!

I remember when you originally showed some of the images on this site. They are excellent material for an exhibit.

Just found this thread - my senior moments must be running in series now - and I'd like to add my congratulations and wish Eric well with the shows!

Thanks Justan, Rob, and Russ.
Got the prints up Friday, and tomorrow is the first official day of the Tar Gazing show. So of course we're supposed to have snow, freezing rain, and rain tomorrow.

Soon I'll post here at least one from the show that isn't already on my website, taken just last month.

Cheers,

Eric
