Can you please let me know if it is a dissent monitor for photo editing? It is $229 at Dell today. If not can you suggest a good monitor in same price range.
Thanks

It has TN-type matrix - forget about it
-
I assume I need the The S-IPS monitor?

I assume I need the The S-IPS monitor?
S-PVA or H-IPS with at least 10bit LUT would be optimal, but first of all stay away from TN.
-
where would I find those specs? None of the sites I looked at display them.
-
NEC x90, P and PA series
EIZO Sxx33/43, SX and CG series
or at least Dell U-series
-
I guess this is the only one I can afford right now, but no doubt it will be an upgrade to what I have tight now.

It is a Dell U2211. It has:
Panel Type, Surface: IPS (In-Plane Switching), anti glare with hard coat 3H. The only thing I am not sure of if it has 10 bit LUT.
-
It's nothing spectacular, but it's better than nothing. At least it has e-IPS and can be dimmed to a reasonable level.
-
Is dimming done during the calibration?
-
Dimming is done by CCFL backlight brightness calibration. The good news is that it can be dimmed to a very low luminance level.

If the description says: Panel Type LCD color active matrix TFT WXGA, is it TN Matrix panel?

If the description says: Panel Type LCD color active matrix TFT WXGA, is it TN Matrix panel?
All current matrix types are active matrix Thin Film Transistor ones.
-
and that is worst, better or the same as TN ?
-
If this is your budget range, your best bets from Dell are the 2209WA or the U2311h. Both are excellent entry level monitors using an e-IPS display panel and selling for around $250 USD.

where would I find those specs?
A good clue is in the viewing angles : PVA or IPS get 178°, TN get 170/160° (even if the actual measurement for a half-decent DeltaE should be in the 10-20° range ;D ::) ).
An IPS is even better than PVA (shadows appear more stable) ; if it's one it's said in the first place.

Thanks you for all the replies I bought U2211h.
