New 9900, upgraded to latest firmware and driver, "auto nozzle check" set to Off, "change black ink" set to Manual...
After switching between black inks, the printer does what seems to be a full cleaning on the first print, even if I reboot the printer prior to the first print.
Another battle in the never ending war to keep Epson from spewing extra ink at every opportunity.
Anyone know a secret way to turn off this automatic cleaning after a black ink switch?
I'd like to print a nozzle check and determine for myself whether a cleaning is needed.

You can find most of 79/9900 fix at Wayne Fox's blog here. (http://www.cwaynefox.com/myBlog/Printing/Entries/2009/7/1_Some_tips_on_using_an_Epson_7900.html)

Thanks for the link. I'd actually already read that piece by Wayne Fox and it was extremely helpful, especially the service mode tip. And with Wayne's help I got control of the cleaning, EXCEPT after a black ink switch.
But maybe there's no way to keep it from cleaning after a switch.
