Title: 2 leaf questions
Post by: Neil Folberg on November 12, 2010, 08:27:25 am
Hello Yair  or anyone else who can help!

Question 1:
If I save photos shot with the AFi-ii 7 in lossless format on the CF card, LR and CS won't open them. I tried using Leaf Raw Converter 1.2.1 as directed on 12 files, choosing a source, destination and then Convert. I got the message "0 of 12 files converted" - it didn't work. I presume I could do this also in LC11, but I don;t remember how. I tried "Process" and it didn't uncompress them.

Question 2:
I recently upgraded the firmware on my AFi-ii 7.  Yair, you said C1 5.2 would do everything in tethered that LC does. Naturally, I wanted to try it. I upgraded C1 and connected the camera and C1 told me the Leaf device (the back, I presume) needed newer firmware - so I uploaded it and the camera wouldn't connect to C1. The back also wouldn't function without being connected to the computer. restraining my natural sense of panic, I connected it to LC and of course, it told me the firmware was wrong and asked to replace it, so I did - it's the same firmware that was in the back before. Now everything works; the camera & back without computer, tethered to LC11. But not to C1 5.2 of course.  So I'm back to where I was, I think - but what's going on?

Neil

There is now Raw Converter 1.2.5 on the website
In LC you can do "Save As..." or just re-save the files; Adjust one parameter (so you see the little floppy icon) and then hit Apple+S
The files will still be comressed but they will open in LR

For this I would suggest submitting a support case so we can have a full record of which/ what firmware version you have as well as the LC and C1 versions. I am guessing that after the first upload the settings on the back somehow changed to Large Format so it lost the connection to the body

Hi, Yair,

As you know, I keep bumping into this issue as well.  Based on your advice, by turning Leaf Raw Converter compression on, I'm now able to keep the files compressed and have them work in my workflow without wasting signficant disk space--thank you.

I haven't been able to find good answers to the following--can you help?

1) Can you shed some light on what's going on?  Why should a compressed .mos file out of the back not work outside of Leaf/Phase tools, yet after running through a conversion tool they will?  (Simple bug?  Updated .mos specification?)

2) Can you confirm that Leaf Raw Capture 1.2.5 won't run on Windows x64?  Is there a plan to fix?

3) Is there any plan to fix the issue in the backs themselves via firmware update, so that this intermediate step will no longer be necessary?  (Ideal solution).

Thanks Yair,
-Brad

Adobe etc. cannot read all the data in the file as it comes off the CF card so we need to "re-arrange" it for them

If it says it doesn't then it doesn't. I'll raise it as a request. Capture One DB 5.2.1 works on Win 64bit BTW and is free

Can't comment on it right now, we're looking into it though...

Best

Yair, thanks. The simplest solution for me at this time is then to shoot compressed, change a color profile or something like that in LC11, and then do a save. That allows me to continue working with compressed files. BUT - it would be ideal if mos compressed files could be made to open directly in LR or C1 as was suggested. This is a major consideration should I decide to upgrade to the Aptus 12, whose files are much larger. Working initially with compressed files is a big plus.

For the other question I'll submit a support request to phase one.

Neil, to clarify, Aptus-II 12 files can go straight into Capture One, no need for any additional steps!

Hi Yaya!

Is it possible to open my files from a Leaf afi ii 10R direct in LR4, without open before with another application?

Best regards.
