Title: Will there be a review of the new Minolta scanner?
Post by: rd on July 01, 2003, 07:05:19 pm
I clipped this post about the 5400 from www.photo.net. The entire thread can be found at the following link:

It seems to be available in Germany for 850 euros. The French magazine "Chasseur d'Images" has a very positive review of the Elite 5400: "5400 dpi are really useful", "very good software" and a measured Dynamic Range of 3.8.

The scanner is fast, except when you apply ICE (at 5400dpi: 1mn15s without ICE / 3mn30 with ICE).

Overall, the ELite 5400 gets a rate of 5/5 (if you want more info: buy the magazine... : ).

Speed with ICE is rather disappointing, and I'll probably skip this model and look for another one... :

Michael,
B&H now has the Minolta - MIDSE5400  - DiMAGE Scan Elite 5400 Film Scanner, in stock for $899. Have you any plans for a review of this scanner? possibly comparing it to Nikon and Canon?

Another post from photo.net and a link to an interesting test -

Not sure how useful a resolution of 5400 will be compared to 4000 but some of the material I have read here and there tends to indicate that there is some benefit in scanning 35mm film upto about 6000 dpi. Some examples here but also similar stuff on other sites (can't remeber at the moment)
