Title: Lost image
Post by: Chairman Bill on September 04, 2010, 07:44:14 am
This is a bit weird, a lot 'bloody infuriating'!

I have just been working on some photos taken yesterday afternoon/evening. All has been well, 'til the last one I was working on. A few subtle changes - curves, sharpening, a crop & then to edit with Silver Efex Pro. Again, all seemed well, but on saving the image from Silver Efex Pro, it remained resolutely colour, not B&W, and then simply disappeared, original Raw file & all. It's just gone. Various searches have delivered nothing (including searching by file number in Spotlight), it isn't in the Aperture 'Trash', isn't in the desktop 'Trash'. Just gone.

Anyone experienced anything similar? Anyone any good ideas for retrieving the photo?

Along the same vein, I imported RAW & JPEGs with RAW as master and only JPEGs showed up???? Didn't happen before or since. Fortuneatly, I had the RAWs in a separate external drive.

Try rebuilding the database: command-option when starting Aperture.

Thanks Rob. Whether that is now an option for me, I'm not sure. I've had to back everything up (again) & go through the process of erasing the hard drive, reloading all my software, importing documents & images & so on. Last time I used Time Machine, but maybe should have gone back further than I did for the back-up. Serious problems (loads of Unix 'error message 5') means I might just gradually rebuild stuff & look into trying to retrieve that one photo some other time!
