Title: 35mm problems on Phase One DF and AFD/III ?
Post by: Frank Doorhof on August 27, 2010, 04:51:51 pm
I recently have been shooting with different bodies and all my lenses work great on the new DF body.
However the 35mm Mamiya has some very weird behaviour which I never noticed before.

When shooting outside with objects far away everything works fine.
In the studio however I have real problems with the AF performance.
IF it works it's hunting a bit but sometimes hit the mark.
Most of the times however it doesn't want to focus, however when I switch to Manual focus everything works as it should, the indicators work, the beep works also and it's sharp where I want.

I've heard that the 35mm is not the best lens in the line up but I can not find anything about this behaviour ?
Any ideas ?

Frank not sure but maybe the contacts on the lens are dirty or bent . Other possibility is the gears inside for AF are damaged

I will clean the contacts with alcohol next week.
Inside everything seems ok because it's really hit and miss subject wise. Outside it works flawless in the studio it depends on the angle or distance.

It sounds like dirty contacts, either on the camera body or the lens, and hopefully not an issue within the lens itself.  The only time I've had problems with AF on the 35mm was recently---one of the six AA batteries in the camera lost its juice.  Replaced the battery pack with fresh batteries and AF resumed normally.
