Title: all of the "new" posts

Would it be possible to turn off the "new" label for posts older than a day or two ?
It seems that when the forum was migrated they were all reset to New

After you've read anything you wanted to read in a section, click on "mark read" (top right of posts list) in that section.

yes, but i figured this was a global issue that an admin could address in one shot.

No not something global, it's different for each user and depends on your last visit time, etc. so I wouldn't be able to override that globally.

Perhaps placing a "mark all forums read" button at the top of the forum home page would be helpful. i understand there is one at the very bottom of the page, but i never get that far down.
