I'm likely to be there for about five days. Any suggestions?

Thanks.

Enjoy the wine, beware leaving anything in the carparks at the chateaux!

May I not suggest this spot? (located NE of Chateauneuf sur Loire off the N60)

I had a bad feeling about the place ...

Rent a car, visit chateaux - Chenonceau (http://www.chenonceau.com/media/gb/index_gb.php) was my favorite. Will be crowded and hot in August, so wide angles are tough unless you don't mind the tourists in shots. Stunning scenery, and very nice people.

Keep in mind that this area is a serious hunting zone. They still practise the hunting with dogs and any sort of exotic variations. You won't go in the dense woods if you do not know exactly what you are doing.
Keep the chateaux route, unless you like emotions

A few years ago, I took our family on a bicycle tour of some of the chateaux in the Loire Valley.  We made the arrangements through a bicycle shop in Blois.  They delivered bikes to our hotel the first night, arranged for lodging and meals at country inns on subsequent nights, transferred our luggage each day, and gave us a map showing a tour route on quiet, country roads.  Very relaxing.
