Title: Happy Canada Day!
Post by: raysem on July 02, 2010, 02:54:55 am
I braved the mosquitoes to get a few shots earlier this evening.

Happy Canada Day to all of us "northerners", and to our colleagues south of the border, have a great July 4.

Canada Day was absolutely gorgeous down here in Boston, but for the 4th of July I do wish I could be in Canada -- preferably somewhere in the Canadian Rockies -- because we are supposed to start a heat wave here that day.

Happy Canada Day, +1!  We had a great time here on the island.  Tomorrow (July 3) is International Free Hugs Day so Marcia and I are going to take our 'Free Hugs' posters out again...  And best wishes to our neighbours to the south for a wonderful July 4!!

Mike.

Mike,

Are you on Vancouver Island?
I remember Nanaimo. There was this bluesman I met there called Dave Gogo, very good musician.
There was at that time a blues festival there.

Very nice souvenirs of this Island, the beaches on the east coast had warm water. Great place and good life quality.

Fred:  Yes I am, in Victoria.  Nanaimo is only an hour or so away.  The Jazz Festival is on right now, and the Blues Bash is a part of that.  David Gogo (http://www.davidgogo.com/) is still around too.

Yep, Fred, and thank God for sweet memories; imagine the silence without.

Vancouver Island is very special indeed.

This is like a little continent: it is located ideally.

On the est coast you have the straight where the water is much warmer and you get a sort of mild atlantic climate.
Being used of our warm spanish seas, I could swim there with absolutly no problem.

On the west, it's cold and wild. Vegetation is more dramatic and humid.

There are high moutains with one of the best skiing conditions of all north america. Because of these moutains,
there is a foen effect. The east is much hotter and dryer.

The food is excellent, specially the mussels and shellfish.

If you want more urban activities, you go easily to Vancouver city or Seattle.

The native indian art is well present (although very tourist orientated but that's the way they have good incomes).

The animals like dears are eating in your hand and the wildlife is well preserved.
Okay, it sounds like Alice in wonderland but I had never seen before wild dear eating in your hand...

People are friendly, relaxed and easy to deal with.

Higly recommended if you don't know this place.

(found the prices cheeper than here by the way).
