Title: Epson 3880--how to set platen gap to "widest?"

I want the platen gap on my 3880 to be permanently set at "widest," but the Epson software only goes up to "wider."  This makes it necessary to manually set the platen to "widest" in the printer's own menu every time I turn it on, something I tend to forget.  Does anyone know why Epson chose to leave the "widest" setting out of their driver software, and is there a way to get the "widest" setting to be the printer's default?
