Title: Premiere Pro, Avid and Final Cut Pro
Post by: fredjeang on June 23, 2010, 01:05:27 pm
Hi,

Time for me to upgrade my now obsolete Premiere Pro 6.

As I'm familiar with the Premiere interface I'm tempted to upgrade in Adobe and save me from another learning curve time.

But I'm asking myself if I should not better change to FCP or AVID.

According to you, is it worth a move or they are more or less the same?
What could I do with these 2 options that I could not do with the Premiere?

Thank you very much.

Dont' have any experience with Avid.

In regards to Final Cut Pro and Preimere Pro, I think Premiere Pro is fine these days. Final Cut Pro is okay but is losing its grip as I see it. If you get one of those bundles, then the integration of other products, such as After Effects, with Premiere Pro is great. I think it is okay to stay with Premiere Pro. A lot of the functionality is the same between Final Cut Pro and Premiere Pro.

John, Joofa, thanks for your answers.

Yes, the Adobe integration (specially with after effects and the Photoshop extended capability as B.Cooter usefully revealed) is what I was thinking as a good reason to stay with Premiere.

Cheers.

Hi Fred,

You are welcome. Both FCP and Adobe Preimere Pro will get the job done as far as editing is concerned and the programs are quite similar. I is the integrated bundle that makes the difference, and where, IMHO Adobe has a more powerful package than Apple, and the good thing is that it runs on Mac also.

And, for those who have both packages, Adobe After Effects can also load Apple Motion (equivalent of Adobe After Effects) files.
