Title: Using a Mac Cinema Display for Colour Managment?

Last September I bought a shiny new 24" Mac cinema display in preparation for printing with a new iPF5100.

I've duly calibrated it all with my GretagMacbeth iOne display gadget and then horror of horrors, a PS specialist friend told me that Mac displays can't be properly colour managed.  Is that so?  I must admit I didn't check before I bought.  Since Mac is so widely used by graphics people I assumed it would be the right one to go for.

Did I assume too much.  Have I wasted my money?

Is this an EyeOne Display or EyeOne Display-2? Apple Displays are nothing special but you should be able to calibrate and profile them. I have seen some issues with white LED backlit units with some Colorimeters which didn’t cause an issue with an EyeOne Pro Spectrophotometer but I don’t keep track of all the differences in what Apple does in terms of backlight. If you do use the instrument and get a quite ugly yellow cast, that’s what I encountered with the LED products that didn’t result when using a Spectrophotometer.
