Absolutely fantastic photo! Thank you for the link. This is exactly how I image an eruption. I've seen many volcanic eruptions but none was as dramatic as the one depicted here.

Thanks for those ones, they are also exceptional. Those posted on the NYTimes blog are awesome too.

APOD has also a stunning photo of the eruption (http://apod.nasa.gov/apod/ap100419.html) which looks more like a still from a Peter Jackson movie than real life.

The Earth Gods and Goddesses must be upset.  Gimme that old time religion.

That photographer was thinking just one thought (beyond mere survival) which was OH YEAH BABY!!!

You're right. It's an amazing shot. It takes a lot to get me to log onto DPR. I had some very unpleasant experiences over there at the hands of the measurebators; in fact I actually hung my cameras up for several months...

For some reason DPR is a cesspool.  They seem to pander to "trolls" in order to get interest.
Great volcano shot though, isn't it?  I'm glad there aren't many volcano's that are so active.
As for "gods and goddesses," I used to be a neo-pagan feminist ritual circle.  No calling down bad weather though as doing harm is against their belief system.
