If you're based in the UK and can get time off this week, Lakeland Photographic Holidays have had to cancel a trip to Tuscany (because of the closure of UK airspace). They now have availability this week in the Lake District - I've stayed there a couple of times and recommend them. PS unplanned in the sense of unscheduled

It sounds tempting, but those of us not already in the UK may have a hard time getting to it for the same reasons that the Tuscany trip was canceled. And the previous time (early 1800s) that that Icelandic volcano erupted, it kept erupting for almost two years.
So I guess the lesson is: Enjoy photographing wherever you are right now!

Yes, I don't think anyone's thinking in terms of this going on for anything more than a few days, let alone for months. Even if it's a few weeks, it could affect us all in little ways that we'd probably never think of, though there should be a few good sunsets! Apparently the last wish of Iceland's economy was that its ashes were scattered over Europe.....

On the tube today, a geo. prof. was saying that the glacier will probably be gone before the eruption stops. Its the cooling of the glacier that causes the dust to be so abrasive.
