I'm no specialist but for me the scene is a bit complex - too many things going around. I would try to simplify a bit to produce a stronger image.

I agree. The first is far too cluttered. The second is better but I think would be improved by removing the stuff on the table and the thing on the wall behind it.

Via, This might be a little better, but I don't understand what it is you're trying to do. By themselves, both pictures seem pretty ho-hum.

It's a part of a documentary project I'm in the middle of.

Well, that makes sense, but I'm afraid that by themselves, outside the documentary context these two seem pretty random and meaningless. Maybe they're better in context.

So do I. As a B&W enthusiast, I'm rather ashamed that I didn't think of it. Thanks, Russ.

I find Russ's version a lot better. Initially, I didn't see the second image which is "cleaner" than the first you posted. Converting to B/W helps.

I like the color version of the second one. The first one seems pointless.
