I have just bought a second Eizo CG222W and have tried calibrating it with Color Navigator. I have another CG222 on my iMac which calibrates beautifully with an i1 Pro. This calibration was with an i1 display 2 attached to an MBP running OS X 10.5.8. I can't try out the Pro as I am away from home.
When I connecetd the monitor with the default settings it looked pretty good. However, as soon as I ran Color Navigator, I see a screen with a distinct red cast. I use mid-grey as my screen background. The digital color meter reports this as 128, 128,128 but it is most definitely not that.
Any suggestions?

Weird as this may sound, it's now OK. I re-plugged everything and did it again and it looks OK now. I also did this a few times yesterday without success. Maybe the calibration gods are smiling on me today.

That didn't last long. I'm back to a delicate pink hue on everything. I guess it's back to my friendly supplier after easter.

I'm surprised why Eizo doesn't mention this in their literature, this is a common occurrence I just went through this with another poster here. It seems that some Eizo models, at least the ones that I've owned need a 2-3 week break-in period, the reddish cast will disappear after that. Don't waste time trying to calibrate it with anything but the CN software, it wont help, just be patient till your monitor broken-in.

I think the problem is in using i1Display 2. "Generic' colorimeters are not good for wide gamut monitors.
The quote from EIZO's FAQ:
"on the CG221 and CG220 with an expanded color space that covers the AdobeRGB color space, a spectrometry-based sensor is recommended for more precise measurement. This type of sensor is more expensive than a filter-based however. For more information, please visit the manufacturer's web site. With an monitor that covers the sRGB color space such as the CG211 calibration accuracy with those sensors is almost the same."

Thanks for the info, folks. My first CG222W didn't display any pink tinge. It was perfect from day 1. I will try profiling with my i1 Pro as soon as I can, and report back in a week or so. I will still call my dealer after Easter and ask him.
It just occurred to me that I only see the pink tinge in CAL mode. The other modes look OK. Is this the behaviour that I should expect?

It does suggest that the profile is incorrect. If I understand correctly, only CAL mode is actually applying the custom profile within the Eizo. The other modes are effectively fixed profiles.
FWIW: I have a CG243W, which I initially profiled using a Spyder3Pro. This gave me a pink tinged CAL mode. Changed to a ColorMunki, no colour cast in CAL mode.

Hi Jeff, a quick question as you have the same monitor I'm having a problem with (3 down from your post), does the cg222w display text clearly? I use a G5 mac desktop and wondered if it may be a software issue. Thanks for any info and hope your problem gets sorted.

Hi Steve,
Text is fine. I have two of these and they are beautiful monitors, very crisp text and good contrast. You shouldn't need to do anything special to get them that way. I also have a cheaper Eizo monitor which is also great on text.

I would have thought that they should produce an identical profile. Eizo states that either is usable. Maybe my Display is stuffed. anyway, that's my problem solved. Thanks for your help.

Thanks Marcin. I guess the message is that the i1 Pro is the way to go, if you have one. I'm glad that I already have one. I'd be seriously upset if, after coughing up for an expensive monitor, I was then told that I needed an i1 Pro. Funny though, that Eizo still list the i1 D2 as usable.

Here's an update. I just got to profile the monitor with my i1 Pro. It's perfect, just what it should be. Thanks for your help.
I'm now wondering whether I should carry the i1 between locations or spring for a Color Munki. In the work that Marcin pointed to, he stated that a Color Munki is as good as an i1 for monitor calibration. It's certainly cheaper

I have the Eye one Display Lt and BasICColor.
Colour Navigator made it awful,and I had to use the on screen menu to reset the monitor to factory defaults before re-cal with BasICColor.
It is now great, but it had done 500 hours.
