Title: any one using selphy's

I have a client that wants to print some 6x4's on set. Are Selphy's any good or should i use an inkjet? And which selphy if any.

They work and can make nice looking prints but not in a color managed workflow as far as I've found.  The best prints seem to be made with the CF card put into the printer itself but it only sees the jpegs.  You can print from lightroom for example but only with a lot of work on a preset with mid tones lifted and colors tweaked.   The profiles you can find circulating on the internet don't really help.

Is there much quality difference 300x600dpi models and the 300x300? I like the size of the 300x300 versions but if the quality is much better.......

I use the Canon Selphy i100 as my digital polaroid when I'm shooting. (I usually use the smaller 2x3 self-adhesive prints for sticking on layouts, my tech sheet, etc.). It works well and is pretty accurate. (I print directly from CF cards.) I also used an HP Photosmart 375 before that to do the same thing (I printed 4-up to get the smaller prints). In color and sharpness, the HP mini inkjet has the edge, but the Canon works well for my purposes with the self-stick prints (I hated messing with glue sticks). Since most of my work is on location, they both worked well because they were both battery operated as well as AC. I shoot RAW+JPEG, and as Eric said, the best quality comes from the CF cards directly.

I have an old dyesub which is great. I gave away a recent one which was uglier. I find that printing directly from my D3x is *very* nice; from Canon not so good. I made up some charts and profiled my oldie once, but it wasn't really worth the difference as it was already pretty good. I can profile yours if you want.
