Title: Why does LR change the capture time of a file when external edit applied?
Post by: AlanShaw on March 25, 2010, 07:22:03 am
Hi all, first time posting here. Already I can see that it's a great community and very informative.

I have a problem I hope someone can help with. When I'm editing in LR and send a copy of a raw file as a tiff to an external editor, and stack the result with the original, the capture time on the .tif is changed from the raw file, and the stack moves within the folder (all my folders are sorted by capture time).

There is no real pattern to the changes, sometimes 3 hours, sometimes 6, sometimes up to 21 hours. Initially I thought it was something to do with time zones, maybe shots that I had taken in the US or Canada and was editing in Australia, where I now live, but even with shots taken in the last few days the problem persists, even though my camera and computer times are the same.

I've tried shots with different bodies, and the same thing still occurs.

Any suggestions?

Thanks.

Edit: I'm using LR2.6 on OSX 10.5

No responses so far.

In doing some further testing, it appears that the problem doesn't occur when editing in PS, but does occur when editing in Nik plugins.

Does anyone know if exporting a .tif into a plugin, where is the .tif created? In Lightroom or by the plug-in. If I can find that out I can at least report the issue to the right vendor.

This is a Nik issue. I used their free trial a few months ago and saw the same thing. I asked their support about it and they suggested I use the "Adjust Capture Time" menu choice in LR.

Thanks Tom. That's what I've been doing. At least Nik are aware of the issue.
