Title: Caught on Google ;-)
Post by: keith_cooper on March 14, 2010, 03:08:14 pm
Last year I was out one afternoon looking to take some photos and the Google camera car snaps me in a field, in Leicestershire (UK).

Now it's appeared in the big UK update of streetview
Caught in the act (http://www.northlight-images.co.uk/stuff/?p=428)

It's now an excellent tool, with the satellite and terrain views, in scouting out locations when travelling round the UK, particularly if I'm out on a commercial job and want to find a more interesting route home.

I've already used it to explore some side roads in areas I know - the sort of roads I've sometimes driven past and wondered what was there.

If the link above is a bit sluggish - this goes directly to the map view

You can see me in the field (with 1Ds3/EF 14 IIRC) and my other half standing on the car to peer over the hedge.

Cute!

So the way to use Google Maps to find good locations is to browse until you come to a scene with Keith Cooper in it.

Can we make requests of general locations that we want you to scout for us (and for Google)?

Eric

P.S. Did you sign a model release?

Karen (standing on the car) has already complained about Google's blurring of faces, since she is quite happy to see herself 'on location' :-)

I happen to be visiting the Suffolk coast later this week, and I've already used it to 'test' a few places I'd never quite got round to visiting.

Don't think I've spotted the Google black cars anywhere else last year :-)

A very good way, indeed!
FWIW, I've come across the Google car 5-6 times. Looking at those locations on street view shows that I must stealthy.
