Title: River comes calling
Post by: John R on March 10, 2010, 04:58:06 pm
Went out with a friend to the Forks of the Credit River. Wanted me to help his son learn some photography. It was treacherous on the hillsides, so we confined ourselves to the top and the paths, and that it where we snagged a few shots like these mighty but ethereal looking rapids. Ah, the magic of photography.

Wonderful John !
This picture touched me. There is a vibration and mouvement but also calmness.
It's funny, when I first saw it I inmediatly thought of Jupiter's atmosphere.

Great work.

Fred.

Very nice. Is it digital? Is there a color version?

Thanks for the comments Keith, Fred and Andrew. It is a digital image shot today, that is why I was excited to post it. I don't usually "see" or convert my images into BW, but this site has helped me to open up my horizons. Nevertheless, I think it was the fact that the scene was mostly monotone to begin with that led me to try the conversion in the first place.  With the benefit of immediate feedback through the display I could see which patterns worked and which didn't. To be honest, I do a lot of experimentation, and I can't say with any certainty whether this image is a multiple exposure on a single frame or not. Apparently the info does not register, so I may never know.

Well done, John!

Mike.
Thanks Mike. I added a second which I prefer in colour as it gives the scene more nuance and brings out the the underlying rocks and silvery highlights better than a BW version. Remember our depth of field scales? Sure wish most of the lens would include one. I could have had another great shot but for the fact I had to guess the DOF in the field!

I like the warm and cool tones of the second shot, but the composition of the first one still makes it jump out for me as something special.

I like the first one - its perfect.
Color doesn't really add something here,
the purity of the B/W version wins for me.
Beautiful image.
