Title: LR2 lost contact with Adobe CS3

I have been using LR 2.6 with Adobe CS3 with success, ignoring the error message about not forwarding well to CS4 raw converter.

Yesterday I installed a trial version of CS4 and, in the process, somehow a Common File got damaged (and CS3 wouldn't save, etc)so I had to repair CS3.

Now LR2 says it can't open CS3 (although CS3 does get opened.)
LR2 is not seeing CS4 at all.
CS3 and CS4 are functioning fine.

I can make this work by installed CS3 as the secondary editor but this involved more work as LR turns the NEF into a TIFF first.

Frustrating, maddening.

Any ideas on how to make this work again?

I experiencing the same problem as you do before and I sort-out the issue as:

Go to "Preference" in LR, select "external editing", under "additional external editor" it have a small button of "choose". Set your CS3 as your application.

Mine is Mac and I'd know any difference with PC.

Thanks, that solves the problem slightly, altho LR insists on turning the file into a tiff even though I have selected PSD as the file type.
