Title: Can't seem to edit files imported through LR3
Post by: mcbroomf on February 15, 2010, 01:09:28 pm
I posted this over in GetDPI but thought I'd ask for help here as well.

I've been trying out C1 v 5.02 on one of my PCs with Vista 64 and decided to buy it.  As I was building a Win7 machine I waited until that was built and loaded it.
However it won't let me edit any of the raw files on my HD.  They show up as thumbs OK, but none of the edit controls work.

By chance today I took some photos and rather than import them through LR3 I just copied them from the CF card to my HD.  C1 can edit them OK.
So I happened to have several previous days worth of photos still on CF so I deleted them from the HD and copied them over again...ie not using LR import.... and C1 can also edit them OK.

So it seems that C1 cannot edit any of the files that had previously been imported to the HD by LR3...

Any ideas?

Thanks

Mike

Mike,

I have been able to edit files that have been previously edited in Lightroom, and this includes some DNGs.  The problem has come with exporting to Photoshop for further editing and printing.  What frequently happens is that PS opens the files in ACR, which is useless at that point.  Evidently, LR's xmp files create a problem when they are exported from C1 to PS.

The problem that you describe is different, but it may relate to the same basic issue.  Phase One is well aware of the xmp glitch and have promised a fix with the next update, which should be out soon.  In the meantime, I would suggest that you submit your problem officially to Phase One Support on their website.  They may already have a simple fix available for you.

Thanks Rob, I've just submitted a request and gave them the link to this string, although I don't know if they will help someone who doesn't yet own the product.

Based on your post I did double check some old files that had never been exported and verified that they are not editable.

I also went back into LR3 and reset the preset on one of my directories (ie back to default), then deleted the Capture directory that it makes in the same directory.  After doing that I reopened C1, navigated to that dir and still no joy.

Mike

PS.   I should also mention that I never had this issue when I was testing C1 on my Vista machine which also had LR3.

Mike,

When I was still using C1 on a trial basis, their customer support was very helpful.  And why should they not be?  They hope that by their giving you assistance, you will ultimately decide to purchase their product.
