The 16-35 is clearly an acknolwdgement from Nikon that Sony A900's ability to stabilize wide lenses enables some real world applications. I hope that it is also the start of a new line of smaller apperture pro class zoom lenses for FX bodies.
On the other hand, the 24f1.4 is going to close one of the most screaming gaps in Nikon's line up compared to Canon. Combined with a D3s's high iso image quality and auto-iso implementation, this lens will be a big asset for those shooting PJ with Nikon cameras.
For a change both lenses will be available pretty soon (Feb 26th and March 19th). The list price is higher than that of its direct competitor, it remains to be seen what the street price will be.

I'm excited to see an f/4 af-s zoom with VR ... they are listening ...
Now all my favorite 'go to' lenses have replacement options .... hmmmm ....
The lenses I use the most are: 70-200mm VR, 50mm f/1.4 AF-D, 17-35mm f/2.8

I'm guessing that the used market price for the 28mm f/1.4 is going to plummet now that Nikon has a new fast wide angle.

The 16-35mm might be an interesting option for DX as well - the DX mid range zooms all have their weaknesses and if weight is not a primary issue the 16-35mm combined with the 60mm macro could serve as a high quality combination for this range. The MTFs published by Nikon indicate it should offer fairly uniform resolution on the DX circle.
Still have not seen prices for both lenses in Europe though.

If the new Nikon 16-35mm lens is as sharp as the Nikon 14-24mm lens then I will definitely be getting one.

There are two things I really like about the 16-35mm f/4 VR announcement:
- It supports filters, unlike the 14-24mm f/2.8
- VR. Hopefully implies a desire to implement VR in more wide and mid range zooms. VR on a second generation 24-70mm f/2.8 would be excellent

If the 16-35 is as sharp as the 14-24 I will certainly sell the 14-24.
The 2 mm extra is handy,however to be able to use filters is a bonus for me.
Also,14 mm is very wide anyway,16 mm is already very wide.
Being F4 makes it a bit lighter as well and should be still easy to focus.
The VRII I could live without.

If the Nikon 16-35mm lens has better resolution in the corners than the Nikon AF28mm f2.8 lens then this would be great.
Having all the standard wide angles in one lens is a bonus to me, plus having the ability to take filters.

The 16-35mm is exactly what I been waiting for. The 14-24 miss the ability to take filters. But 16-35 can take ND filters and more. Also the price is nicer. I am looking forward for formal reviews. I am interested if got much off nikons new magic as the 14-24mm is a solid performer.

I am really excited with Nikon's recent lenses. Mainly because I am absolutely not interested in either so I can save some $$$ until the next "must have" comes out!

Hopefully we won't see a repeat of the 28mm f/1.4 with a limited production run leading to used prices skyrocketing to $4000
